Hand Eczema !

Hand eczema or hand dermatitis refers to the hand’s skin which develops a rash and small painful blisters and cracks and becomes scaling, chapped, and red.

Hand dermatitis differs in harshness. It affects both sides; backs of the hands and the palms. Initially it is usually in mild sporadic form, but can become progressively persistent and severe. First, affected skin becomes red and dry, then develops to itchy papules also known as bump and pus-filled vesicles commonly known as blisters, scaling, cracking or fissures, exudation or weeping more commonly, and swelling or oedema.

Crusting, pain, and pustules can develop as a result of possible bacterial infection. Deformed nails can be caused by the longstanding dermatitis at the ends of the fingers. Hand eczema is more likely to affect other skin areas as well, especially feet and the forearms.

Causes of Hand Eczema:

Many things individually or as a combination can cause hand eczema. They include.

• Chemicals
• Soaps and detergents
• Overexposure to water
• Rubber gloves
• Too much dry air
• Solvents and cleaning agents

Hand Eczema Treatment:

Dermatologists usually offer a combination of methods for hand dermatitis treatment. Your dermatologist may suggest you an oral antibiotic if you are suffering from an infection. He may also prescribe you creams or medicated ointments to apply regularly. However, you are to make sure that you don’t use this in combination with other hand creams due to any side effects of the mixture. If you have to use any hand cream other than for hand eczema, you should consult your doctor as to avoid any possible allergy.
