Ear Eczema !
Like eczema elsewhere, eczema on the skin of ear also brings itchiness, scaling redness, and sometimes weepiness to the victim.
Usually, an allergy to a food or substance like hair spray that comes in contact with the skin causes ear eczema. Swimming in pools worsens ear eczema for many. As with all eczemas, finding and avoiding the triggers is the best form of ear eczema treatment.
Applying cortisone ointment topically sometimes relieve in ear eczema. Fortunately, it usually settles quickly with the application of topical steroid drops for a few days. Topical steroid drops are available only on prescription.
For people suffering from ear eczema, dermatologists usually advise:
- Never scratch infected ears.
- Avoid having the infected ear syringed.
- Never forget to wear little plugs of cotton-wool rolled in Vaseline when swimming. A tightly-fitting waterproof swimming hat would be far better.
- Start treating the infected ear as soon as it starts bothering.
Since the causes and symptoms of ear eczema are exactly like the causes and symptoms of eczema elsewhere, it is not differently treated and ways to prevent it are also not dissimilar.
